Record-level audit of the public INSDC wastewater SARS-CoV-2 sequencing archive (NCBI BioSample), ascertained 15 September 2026
Description
This dataset (Supplementary Data 1) provides a complete census of all 82,757 SARS-CoV-2 wastewater sequencing records from the NCBI BioSample archive, ascertained on 15 September 2026 via NCBI E-utilities. The dataset includes record-level metadata: accession, submitting institution (Owner), submission date, geographic location (geo_loc_name), collection date, organism, isolation source, and parent BioProject. Derived variables are also provided, including harmonized ISO 3166-1 sampling country, submitting institution country attribution, submission pathway (hub-routed vs. independent domestic), and collection-to-submission lag. Additionally, the dataset links to WHO COVID-19 cumulative mortality data. A comprehensive data dictionary is included to describe every field. This dataset supports the audit of submission pathway concentration, velocity, and burden-presence decoupling in global wastewater surveillance.
