Pectin gels colonic fermentation - Tizzanini et al.
Description
Overview: This study investigated the human colonic fermentation in an in vitro setup of pectin gels and dispersions. What is included: Method and report from the company that analyzed the pellets taken from the fermentation; microbiota genomic analysis and the resulting data (OTUs); The dataset used are SILVA, GreenGenes2 and GTDB (CMBio, Denmark). Description: Three different molecular weights of pectin were obtained by a commercial sample provided by Herbstreit & Fox: 240 (P240), 190 (P190) and 100 (P100) kDa in Mw. These were fermented for 24 hours in an anaerobic in vitro colonic fermentation setup using a human inoculum including a control. The inoculum was obtained by pooling from 6 healthy donors. 7 were the samples: P240 dispersion and gel (PD240, PG240), P190 dispersion and gel (PD190, PG190), P100 dispersion and gel (PD100, PG100), and one negative control, a dispersion of P240 without GDL in solution (P240_noGDL). Samples were withdrawn at 0, 4, 8 and 24 hours, centrifuged, and their pellet was analyzed for microbiota composition.
