Description

This study explores the impact of digital transformation and sustainable management on the total factor productivity of small and medium enterprises in Togo. Using data from the latest General Census of Enterprises in 2018 and the smooth instrumental variable quantile regression, the results show that the adoption of digital transformation and the implementation of sustainable management have a significant positive impact on productivity, particularly for firms located outside the capital and led by men. Furthermore, the complementarity between digital transformation and sustainable management reinforces their positive effects. Policy recommendations stemming from this study's findings suggest the need for targeted initiatives supporting digital transformation and sustainable management adoption among small and medium enterprises in Togo, with a focus on addressing geographical disparities, gender imbalances, and fostering synergies between these two transformative practices.
