Older adults' perception of Residential Care Options in Nigeria

The raw dataset included herewith was generated from my doctorate degree study on older adults’ perception of residential care options in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study was conducted from June-December 2019. The researcher, with the help of three trained research assistants interviewed 67 older adults and their caregivers. The guides majorly focused on obtaining information about the opinions of older adults as well as their caregivers on placement in residential care facilities as an alternative care option. The data set was coded with the aid of Nvivo 12 software and organized in themes.

Steps to reproduce

data collection procedure: The researcher, with the help of three trained research assistants mobilized (using household outreach approach) interviewed 67 older adults and their caregivers. We adopted purposive sampling technique in selecting the study participants. We utilized In-depth Interview guide with questions and prompts capturing information on opinions on placement in residential care facilities as an alternative care option. The interviews were recorded, and audio files transcribed verbatim. The data set was coded with the aid of Nvivo 12 software and organized in themes.
