Description

This community-based study evaluated the effect of a structured 12-week dengue awareness programme on Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) among 385 adults from Wards 57 and 58 of Tangra, Kolkata. Participants were assessed before and after the programme using a 38-item researcher-administered KAP questionnaire. Total KAP scores improved substantially following the intervention, with the median score increasing from 17 to 25 and a large within-participant effect (r = 0.86; p < 0.001). Improvements were observed across all three KAP domains, while education was the most consistent predictor of greater improvement, and socioeconomic status was additionally associated with Practice. The findings support the potential value of structured community-based dengue awareness programmes, while highlighting the need for context-sensitive communication and further evaluation using controlled designs and validated KAP instruments.
