Two complementary Scopus searches were conducted on 23 July 2026. A high-precision search retrieved 184 records and a title-based recovery search retrieved 61; removal of 19 cross-search duplicates yielded a query-defined corpus of 226 articles, reviews, and conference papers published from 2023 to July 2026.

Steps to reproduce

Search 1 used a high-precision three-block structure requiring a GenAI or LLM term, a hallucination or fabricated-evidence term, and an education or scholarly-work term; it returned 184 records. Search 2 used title-level hallucination or fabricated-citation terms together with title-level education, citation, writing, or scholarly-context terms to recover relevant records that the proximity-based search might miss; it returned 61 records. BiblioSpy identified 19 cross-search duplicates and retained the most complete metadata and highest citation count for overlapping records, producing 226 unique Scopus records. The complete queries and merge log are provided in Supplementary Appendices A–C.
