Description

This data describes guest attendance at lunch meal servings in 34 Swedish public schools and preschools between late August 2010 to the beginning of June 2020. Of the included canteens, 15 of the schools and all of the preschools belong to one municipality and the remaining 3 schools belong to two other municipalities. Data on number of plates was used as a proxy for the number of guests eating lunch. The data was collected prior and during the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic to evaluate the changes in guest attendance during the pandemic. The datasets also include information regarding which dates the public catering organizations was closed due to holiday or planning days and general comments that the canteens used to note any particular event. The school data also contains information about how many students that were enrolled during the term. General canteen/kitchen information is also available describing the characteristics of the canteen such as if a canteen is a production kitchen or a satellite kitchen and what age group that typically eat in the establishment. All data elements pertaining the exact canteens of staff member identification were deleted. Due to scarcity of real business data for scientific and educational purposes, these datasets can have an important role for research and education in catering management, consumption pattern, machine learning, data mining, as well as in other fields related to the food service sector.
