Data for: Developmental stage reshapes phenotypic similarity in Cannabis sativa L.: a Malawian landrace-centred germplasm study
Description
This dataset supports the manuscript “Developmental stage reshapes phenotypic similarity in Cannabis sativa L.: a Malawian landrace-centred germplasm study.” It contains the phenotype records and analytical outputs used for the developmental and adult-morphology analyses, including F1 developmental traits, seed- and later-plant Gower dissimilarity matrices, PCoA coordinates, Bandawe-anchor trajectories, Mantel-test outputs, adult morphology descriptors, sensitivity analyses, seed morphometrics, germination and sprouting observations, phenology and cultivation-context records, chemotype-context metadata, image registers, and data-harmonisation/QC documentation. Analytical units, provenance and study limitations are documented within the workbook and associated manuscript.

Open the supplementary Excel workbook and use the indexed worksheets containing the raw phenotype records, distance matrices and derived outputs. The primary developmental analysis comprises nine F1 line-level units sharing the Bandawe-derived parent CH1-16/128: two within-Bandawe anchors and seven comparator crosses. Yuma is retained only as an external reference and is excluded from the primary common-parent tests. Analyse the six seed-domain traits and six later-plant-domain traits separately. For Gower dissimilarity, range-scale continuous variables to 0–1 within the nine-line panel; map ordered three-level variables to 0, 0.5 and 1; and score nominal variables as 0 for a match and 1 for a mismatch. Average trait contributions to obtain pairwise Gower dissimilarities between 0 and 1. Perform principal coordinates analysis independently on the seed- and later-plant Gower matrices, applying a Lingoes correction where required. Test concordance between the two distance matrices using a Spearman Mantel test with 9,999 permutations and a two-sided plus-one permutation P value. For each comparator, calculate the mean Gower distance to the two within-Bandawe anchors separately in the seed and later-plant domains. Calculate the developmental shift as ΔDstage = Dlater-plant − Dseed; positive values indicate divergence from the Bandawe anchors and negative values indicate convergence. Repeat the calculation after omitting each trait in turn to assess one-trait sensitivity. For the adult reference analysis, use the nine accession-level records comprising four Bandawe accessions and five comparators. Calculate categorical mismatch distance as the fraction of the six adult descriptors with different states, then repeat after omitting each descriptor in turn. Seed morphometrics, germination/sprouting observations, phenology, cultivation context, chemotype-context metadata and image records are descriptive supporting datasets and are not pooled into the primary developmental inferential analysis. T0 and T1 germination observations are retained as separate source-defined trials.
