Survival and recurrence data of breast cancer in elderly women over 70 years old with 1-2 positive axillary lymph nodes, from the SEER database and the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University

This retrospective study utilized data from 17 SEER registry centers, encompassing patient demographics, tumor characteristics, treatment details, and survival outcomes. SEER primary cohort: Data from the SEER database was officially accessed and extracted on 02/03/2023. Data were extracted using SEER*Stat software (version 8.4.0.1) for 8,977 female patients aged ≥70 years diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and 1–2 positive lymph nodes between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2019. Variables included marital status, age, race, radiotherapy and chemotherapy administration, number of axillary nodes examined and positive, time from diagnosis to treatment, tumor size, molecular subtype, cause of death, survival months, and vital status. An additional validation cohort comprised 106 female patients aged ≥70 years diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer between January 2018 and December 2021 at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University. The electronic medical records were retrieved for research analysis on 12/04/2026. Data collected included age, grade, number of positive axillary nodes, tumor size, and LRR status. Histological types were classified according to the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, Third Edition (ICD-O-3).This study has received an ethics statement from the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, exempting informed consent.
