Description

This dataset contains 554 natural disasters, divided into 80 from the geoclimate group, 127 hydrological and 347 meteorological, occurred in Northern America (Bermuda, Canada, Greenland, Saint Pierre and Miquelon and United States of America) during the period ranging from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2025. The data source for natural disasters is the Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT, https://www.emdat.be/), which is updated by the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disaster (CRED). With respect to the financial data, we provide eleven S&P 500 equity indices for analyzing different economic sectors as classified by the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) namely: Communication Services (hereafter, COMM), Consumer Discrectionary (CONSD), Consumer Staples (CONSS), Energy (ENERG), Financial (FINANC), Health Care (HEALTH), Industrials (INDUS), Materials (MATER), Real Estate (RESTAT), Information Technology (TECH), and Utilities (UTIL).
