Depth profile (~30 m depth) measurements of cosine collected downwelling irradiance at 305, 313, 320, 340, 380 and 395 nm for UVR were carried out using a Biospherical PUV-2500 submersible radiometer on the sunny side of the vessel, with the instrument 0.5 m away from the edge of the vessel to minimize self-shading effects. SDD was recorded using a standard 30 cm diameter Secchi disk. Five-liter water samples were collected at depths of 0.5-2.0 m during the UVR depth profile measurement for the measurement of CDOM absorption and optically active substances concentration.
