Description

This dataset contains information on the physical, chemical, biochemical, and micromorphological properties of Technosols developed in a limestone quarry located in a semi-arid environment, impacted by mining activities and restored with different organic amendments, compared with unamended soils. It includes measurements of basic soil quality parameters, enzymatic activity, microbial respiration, aggregate stability, and structural characteristics observed through micromorphological analysis.

Steps to reproduce

The dataset was obtained from field and laboratory analyses of technosols developed in a limestone quarry located in a semi-arid environment, affected by mining activities and restored with different organic amendments (garden waste compost, greenhouse crop residues compost, and stabilized sewage sludge). Unamended soils were used as controls. Field sampling was performed in triplicate for each treatment. Soil physical and chemical properties (e.g., pH, electrical conductivity, total organic carbon, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, calcium carbonate content, texture, bulk density, and water retention) were determined following standardized protocols . Basal respiration and enzyme activities (dehydrogenase, β-glucosidase, alkaline phosphatase, and urease) were measured using spectrophotometric assays. Aggregate stability was assessed by wet-sieving, and glomalin-related soil proteins were quantified via extraction and colorimetric determination. Micromorphological features were studied using thin sections examined under a petrographic microscope, applying semi-quantitative evaluation criteria. Statistical analyses, including PERMANOVA, were carried out to test differences among treatments.
