The taxonomic profile and abundance data of bacteria in water and sediment samples collected from Poring Hot Spring in Ranau, Sabah, Malaysia were obtained by sequencing the V3-V4 region of the rRNA gene using the Hiseq Illumina sequencing platform and various bioinformatic tools.

Steps to reproduce

Water and sediment samples were collected from Poring Hot Spring, and DNA was extracted using Qiagen DNeasy PowerWater and PowerSoil Kits. The extracted DNA was then subjected to 250 bp paired-end raw reads sequencing on the Hiseq Illumina sequencing platform. The obtained unique amplicon sequence variants were grouped into operational taxonomic units (OTUs) using the UPARSE pipeline, followed by taxonomy assignment using QIIME v.1.7.1.
