Description

This dataset contains the underlying behavioral data from an experimental study evaluating the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in a rat model of monocular deprivation amblyopia. The dataset includes individual-level measurements from the open field test, elevated plus maze, forced swimming test, and Morris water maze. Experimental groups consisted of control, amblyopia, amblyopia+saline, and amblyopia+NAC groups. Monocular deprivation was induced by right eyelid suturing for 21 days, followed by a 10-day treatment or follow-up period. The data support the analyses and results reported in the associated manuscript entitled “Effects of N-acetylcysteine on visual cue-based learning, spatial memory, and behavioral outcomes in a rat model of monocular deprivation amblyopia.”

Monocular deprivation was induced in female Wistar rats by suturing the right eyelids for 21 days. After completion of the deprivation period, animals were allocated to amblyopia, amblyopia+saline, and amblyopia+N-acetylcysteine groups. Saline or N-acetylcysteine (250 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally) was administered for 10 days. Behavioral assessments included the open field test, elevated plus maze, forced swimming test, and Morris water maze. The uploaded dataset contains the individual-level behavioral measurements used for the statistical analyses reported in the associated manuscript.
