Description

This dataset was generated to compare four biomass estimation methods for Ruscus aculeatus and to test whether methods based on plant volume or shoot structure provide more accurate estimates than simpler approaches. The data were collected in Belgrad Forest, Istanbul, Türkiye, from destructively sampled individuals for whom crown dimensions, height, mean shoot diameter, and shoot number were measured before the harvest. Oven-dry aboveground biomass was then determined under a standardized drying protocol. The dataset includes measured variables, derived structural variables, observed biomass, method-specific predictions, and error statistics. The data show clear differences in predictive performance among methods, with the volume-based method performing best overall. The dataset can be used to reproduce the analyses in the associated manuscript and to support further studies on shrub biomass estimation, carbon assessment, and understory fuel-load evaluation.
