The Representation of Islamic Parties in Bangladeshi Newspapers: An Analysis Through Stuart Hall’s Representation Theory

This dataset accompanies the study “The Representation of Islamic Parties in Bangladeshi Newspapers: An Analysis Through Stuart Hall’s Representation Theory.” It contains 300 verified online news items published between January 2021 and June 2026 by six major Bangladeshi newspapers: Prothom Alo, The Daily Star, Bangladesh Pratidin, Kaler Kantho, Jugantor, and Samakal. The dataset is balanced by newspaper and political period, with 50 items from each outlet and equal representation before and after 5 August 2024. Each record includes publication date, headline, newspaper, political period, primary Islamic political actor, dominant frame, Hallian representational outcome, and a direct source link. The accompanying codebook explains the analytical categories and coding rules used for examining framing, agency, securitisation, political normalisation, othering, historical stigma, victimisation, and other forms of media representation. The dataset is provided to support transparency, verification, replication, and future research on political communication, Islamic politics, and news representation in Bangladesh.
