Description
In the attached document the most important crude data used to interprete the geological structure and morphological evolution of the Pinheira barrier are presented.

The drill holes used to interpret the geological section of Fig.3 were obtained by the Standard Penetration Test (SPT), which recover short cores (45 cm) at each 1 meter of penetration in the subsurface. As the system uses a percussion system for penetration, we have access to the compaction of the sounded lithologies. This information made possible to clearly define the contact between relic aeolian and beach deposits along the foredune plain of the Pinheira regressive barrier. GPR records from some parts of the section allowed us to make detailed interpretations, as is the case of the innermost part of the section. The kind of 3D record (Fig. 8) gave a good support to interprete the nature of sedimentary deposits of an inter-ridge depression as fluvial-estuarine.
