Visitor survey dataset collected during Durga Puja 2023 in Kolkata, India, as part of a study assessing transport connectivity and accessibility at cultural mega-event.
Description
This dataset contains primary data collected through a structured visitor survey conducted during Durga Puja 2023 in Kolkata, India, as part of a study assessing transport connectivity and accessibility at cultural mega-event locations. The survey covered visitors to selected 62 Durga Puja pandals of different operational scales and spatial characteristics within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area. The dataset records visitor ratings of identified accessibility and transport-related parameters at the festival sites. The parameters were developed from the literature review and the study's conceptual framework and broadly cover transport connectivity and node-based accessibility, including connectivity from the visitor's place of origin, road capacity, adequacy of local public transport, pedestrian pathway adequacy, and parking availability. The visitor responses were collected using a structured questionnaire and Likert-scale ratings. The dataset was used to understand visitor perceptions of accessibility across different festival nodes and to derive relative weights for the identified factors and indicators. These weights were subsequently integrated with expert assessments and used in the study's weighted scoring framework for assessing and comparing the accessibility performance of festival sites. The visitor responses also supported the analysis of the relationship between accessibility-related factors and overall visitor satisfaction. The dataset is intended to support research on cultural event tourism, visitor mobility, destination accessibility, event management, and urban tourism planning. It may also facilitate comparative or methodological studies examining accessibility at other cultural events with multiple activity nodes. The dataset contains survey responses and associated assessment variables relevant to the research objectives. It should be interpreted within the context of the Durga Puja 2023 study period and the selected festival locations in Kolkata. As the survey represents visitors encountered at the selected festival sites during the event period, the data should not be interpreted as a statistically representative sample of all Durga Puja visitors in Kolkata. No personally identifiable information is included in the dataset.
