Infant formula dataset China (2017-2024)
Description
This dataset was generated to provide an overview of the key parameters of registration-approved 783 infant formula powder from 2017 to 2024 in China. The compliance assessments were conducted according to current standard GB 10765-2021, and comparative analyses of nutrient content were also performed between regulatory-compliant domestic formulas and imported formulas(Table 1). This overview was also intended to be a tool for data-driven insights for formula optimization, or to assist Chinese consumers in selecting appropriate infant formula milk powder products

Steps to reproduce
The data were retrieved, collected, verified and statistically calculated according to a four-phase method. In a first step, selection criteria, designed for infants aged 0 to 6 months, were established. Thus, the products included in the dataset had to be infant formula powder. In a second step, the registration information for infant formula powder from 2017 to 2024, officially disclosed by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation were retrieved and collected. In a third step, the nutritional values were verified, either via a webscraping method (information collected on websites either of brands or merchants trading products) or directly on the product packing(data collected from product labels),and compliance assessments were conducted according to current standard GB 10765-2021.In a finally step, data was anonymized by attaching a product ID to each formulas and then structured to form the dataset. The lists of nutritional values were standardized in order to preserve the anonymization and to present the data systematically in the same format for 100 kJ and 100g of powder. In each list of nutritional values, data were extracted when they were indicated, and the nutrient content in domestic and imported were also statistically calculated and presented.
