High precision Al-Mg isotopic sims microanalysis of Wark-Lovering rims on Ca-Al-rich inclusions
Description
Two tables. One contains magnesium and aluminum isotopic data for Wark-Lovering rim phases on six refractory inclusions from CV3 carbonaceous chondrites. The second table contains corresponding isotopic data from the interior of one of the inclusions, Vigarano USNM 477-5. All data was collected using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS, a.k.a ion microprobe)

Meteorite conclusions from the Smithsonian collection were studied petrologically via SEM and optical methods, analyzed using electron microprobe, and the interiors of the inclusions were analyzed for their Mg and Al isotopes using SIMS. Those with well-developed rim sequences were selected for isotopic analyses of the rims themselves. The isotopic data from each inclusion were used to create isochrons whose slopes give the initial 26Al/27Al of the inclusions. Differences in that value between various objects point to differences in time of formation (relative chronometer).
