Description

Data for the manuscript "Sequential Syntax of EEG Microstates Captures the Temporal Dynamics of Inhibitory Control" (iScience, 2026). EEG was recorded from 30 healthy adults performing a Go/NoGo task (19 channels, 500 Hz; 20 correct trials per condition and participant, Go hits and NoGo correct rejections; 1,200 trials). Raw EEG data are available upon reasonable request to the corresponding author. The dataset has two folders. inputs/ contains the inputs of the analysis code: the per-sample microstate label sequences of every trial (K = 5, microstates A–E), the group microstate templates for K = 4–9 from a single clustering run, and the global explained variance (GEV) for each K. supplementary/ contains Supplementary Tables S1–S5 as Excel workbooks and as one CSV file per sheet: S1: per-trial microstate metrics (coverage, lifespan, occurrences). S2: k-mer motif screen. S3: bigram transition rates. S4: conditional successor statistics. S5: per-trial microstate sequences and per-participant consensus sequences. All tables are produced by the analysis code, available at https://github.com/Biodigital-Innovation-Lab/cognitive-microstates and archived at Zenodo (doi: 10.5281/zenodo.23177217); the code is a re-implementation of the original analysis, verified against the reported values. README_data.md describes every file and column. checksums.sha256 lists the SHA-256 of every file. Changes from Version 1: All tables were regenerated with the deposited code, using one template set throughout. S3 and S4 use the exact early (100–500 ms) and late (500–900 ms) windows. S3 adds Benjamini–Hochberg FDR-corrected p-values across the 20 bigrams. S1 metrics were recomputed, and the sex coding was corrected. The label sequences, the templates (K = 4–9) and the GEV values were added.
