Processed hydroclimatic, vegetation, episode-state, and copula data for compound flash drought–heatwave episodes in Ningxia, China

Description

This dataset supports the study of compound flash drought–heatwave episodes and their propagation into agricultural drought in irrigation-dominated and rainfed agricultural zones of Ningxia, China, during 2001–2022. It contains processed ERA5-Land maximum air temperature and root-zone soil-moisture data, quality-screened MODIS EVI time series, an independently derived compound-event inventory, episode-level root-zone soil-moisture state classifications, copula-analysis outputs, figure and table source data, and reproducible R scripts. Station-based multi-depth soil-moisture observations supplied by the Ningxia Meteorological Bureau are subject to provider restrictions and are not redistributed. Only aggregate statistics from the station-based consistency assessment are included.

Steps to reproduce

Download and extract the dataset archive. The analysis scripts were prepared using R 4.3.3; the package versions used for the final reproducibility assessment are provided in code/sessionInfo.txt. Set the extracted dataset directory as the working directory, or define the environment variable CFDH_DATA_ROOT as the path to that directory. Run the following scripts in sequence: Rscript code/01_reproduce_RZSM_states_and_Figure7.R Rscript code/02_reproduce_EVI_responses.R Rscript code/03_reproduce_Table_S6_copula_robustness.R The first script reproduces the episode-level root-zone soil-moisture state classifications and Figure 7 source outputs. The second reproduces the event-centred EVI response results. The third reproduces the copula-family robustness analysis supporting Supplementary Table S6. The third script performs full copula-family maximum-likelihood fitting and may require several minutes. Outputs generated during the final package verification are provided in the reproduced_outputs/ directory. Additional information is available in README.md.
