Dataset for "The Distributional Impact of Climate Policy Stringency in Europe”
Description
The first file, titled "CAPMF-Gini Dataset _ Abbas_Kopp" contains the dataset used for estimations for the paper "The Distributional Impact of Climate Policy Stringency in Europe". It contains the values taken from original sources (WID, OECD, World Bank) with baseline estiamtion in level, and logarithmic specification in the Appendix. The second file, titled Code Abbas_Kopp, provides the do.file with the codes used for the estimations.

The study uses a balanced panel of 26 EU countries from 1990–2022. Income inequality data (pre-tax, post-tax, and disposable Gini coefficients) were sourced from the World Inequality Database (WID). Environmental policy stringency was derived from the OECD Climate Actions and Policies Measurement Framework (CAPMF), an update of the Environmental Policy Stringency Index. Public social expenditure (SocX) data came from the OECD Social Expenditure Database, while GDP per capita and unemployment rates were obtained from the World Bank’s World Development Indicators. All data were harmonized and merged into a single Stata panel dataset. Variables were logarithmically transformed for interpretation in percentage terms. The analysis employed panel time-series estimators Augmented Mean Group (AMG) which address slope heterogeneity, endogeneity, and cross-sectional dependence. All codes and the processed dataset were produced in Stata 19.
