IPT dataset
Description
This dataset is the complete title-and-abstract screening record behind a PRISMA-guided systematic review of terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and imaging used as a diagnostic or analytical modality for biological, clinical and pharmaceutical material. Two Scopus searches were performed: a focused search covering 1999–2026, executed on 13 September 2026, returning 1,709 records; and a supplementary historical search covering 1980–1998, executed on 8 September 2026, returning 187 records. After removal of eight duplicate reports of the same study, 1,888 records were screened against three eligibility criteria stated in full in the accompanying workbook. 970 were excluded and 918 included; five further studies identified through citation searching bring the evidence base to 923. From that base, 92 studies were selected for in-depth discussion by a rule fixed in advance and applied uniformly within each application domain. The workbook lists every screened record with the decision made on it, the reason for each exclusion, the application domain assigned to each inclusion, and a confidence rating. Screening was performed with AI assistance (Claude, Anthropic) applying the stated criteria. The author independently verified a stratified sample of 200 records, comprising every record flagged as uncertain together with a random draw taken with a fixed seed. Author–model agreement was 89.5% (179 of 200; Cohen's kappa = 0.787), and 94.9% when weighted to the composition of the full corpus, the sample having deliberately over-represented uncertain records. The verification marks are reproduced exactly as returned. The raw Scopus exports for both searches are deposited alongside the workbook. Abstracts have been removed from them; every record retains its DOI and Scopus EID, so the complete bibliographic record can be retrieved from the source. The dataset is published so that the review's selection can be reproduced exactly, or a different selection rule applied to the same evidence base. It can also be reused directly as a screened corpus of terahertz biomedical literature classified by application domain.
