Ethics committee approval was obtained for the study. The population of the study included individuals aged 18-75 living in the city center of Osmaniye. The sample consisted of individuals in the population who had visited the hospital within the last year. The inclusion criteria were as follows: • Being 18-75 years old • Not being healthcare workers • Having visited the hospital within the last year • Having the ability to communicate The exclusion criteria were as follows: • Having any profession or occupation related to health • Refusing to fill out the questionnaire forms • Inability to understand the questions on the questionnaire forms • Not completing the questionnaire form for any reason The data were collected between January and February 2024 using ad “Descriptive Information Form”, the “Health Care Communication Questionnaire” and the “Intention to Commit Violence against Healthcare Professionals Scale”, which have been validated in the literature. The Descriptive Information Form included questions about the age, gender, marital status, education status, and income status of the participants. The Health Care Communication Questionnaire consists of 13 items. It is a 5-point Likert-type scale where each item is scored between “1” (not at all) and “5” (completely). The scale has four subscales, which are nonverbal immediacy (items 1 and 9), problem-solving (items 10, 11, 12, and 13), respect (items 2, 3, 5, and 7), and lack of hostility items (4, 6, and 8). The total scale score of a respondent is calculated by adding their scores in each item and dividing the result by 13. For each subscale, the scores of the respondent in each item of the subscale are added together, and the resulting value is divided by the number of items in the subscale. In this study, the scores of the participants were calculated separately for each subscale and the overall scale. The Intention to Commit Violence against Healthcare Professionals Scale has five subscales. These subscales are intention to commit violence (item 1), past experiences (item 2), attitude towards behavior (items 3-8), subjective norms (items 9-13), and perceived behavioral control (items 14 and 15).
