Description

Raw Data The raw data is saved in an “Excel” file which includes four sheets. Each sheet has several tables and each table in one sheet contains two sub-tables which respectively present the data of the tubes with constant air mass and constant inner pressure for identification of the interaction and its influence through comparison. The first sheet contains four tables which respectively present the data for different initial pressures. The second sheet contains three tables which respectively list the data for different constraints. The third sheet contains six tables which respectively give the data for different axial compressive forces. And the last sheet contains four tables which respectively list the data for different slenderness ratios. The specimens in the experiment all have circular cross-section with the external radius of 50mm and they are fabricated by the authors with Kapton membrane with the thickness of 0.075mm. Besides, corresponding raw data from the numerical analysis is also presented in an “excel” file for comparison to ensure the reliability and repeatability of the experimental results. Please see the file with the name of “Raw Data - from the numerical analysis”. Processed Data The processed data is also saved in an “Excel” file which includes four sheets. Each sheet has five tables which respectively present the data of the maximum interaction coefficient, the start and maximum positions of interaction, the monotonic interval of interaction and the influence of interaction on the critical wrinkling load and ultimate bearing capacity of the tubes. All the variables as the column names of each table are explained below it in the file. The maximum interaction coefficient, the start and maximum positions of interaction and the monotonic interval of interaction in the loading stage are obtained from Eqs.(2), (3) and (4) in the paper, respectively. The transverse tangent stiffness of the tube is calculated according to the relationship between the transverse load and transverse displacement of the tube subjected to both the axial compression and transverse bending. The critical wrinkling load Fw and the ultimate bearing capacity Fu are derived from Eqs.(6) and (7) in the paper where the initial pressure is 6 kPa, the radius is 50mm and the length is 700mm. The influences of interaction on the critical wrinkling load and ultimate bearing capacity are evaluated by comparing these two quantities between the tubes with constant air mass and constant inner pressure. The first sheet presents the data of interaction for different initial pressures, the second for different constraint types, the third for different axial loads and the last for different slenderness ratios.
