Research Dataset and Supplementary Materials for Organizational Cyber Breach Severity Assessment
Description
This repository contains the research materials required to reproduce the analyses presented in the associated manuscript on organizational cyber breach severity assessment. The repository includes the original dataset obtained from the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (PRC), the processed analytical dataset, analysis scripts, statistical outputs, tables, figures, and supplementary documentation describing the analytical workflow. The study employs descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, Kruskal–Wallis and Dunn's post hoc tests, correspondence analysis, K-Means clustering, and the development and validation of the Principal Component Analysis-Based Breach Severity Index (PCA-BSI). These materials are provided to promote research transparency, reproducibility, and the advancement of empirical research in cybersecurity governance, cyber risk assessment, organizational resilience, and evidence-based policymaking.

Steps to reproduce
The analyses reported in the associated manuscript can be reproduced using the datasets, analysis scripts, and supporting materials provided in this repository. Follow the steps below: Download all files from this repository and retain the original folder structure. Review the README file for an overview of the repository contents and software requirements. The Original Data folder contains the publicly available organizational cyber breach dataset obtained from the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse (PRC). The Processed Data folder contains the cleaned and standardized dataset used for all statistical analyses. Install the required Python libraries listed in the README file (e.g., pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, and statsmodels). Execute the analysis scripts sequentially according to their filenames. The scripts perform data preprocessing, descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, Kruskal–Wallis and Dunn's post hoc tests, correspondence analysis, K-Means clustering, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), development of the PCA-Based Breach Severity Index (PCA-BSI), and generation of all tables and figures reported in the manuscript. The generated outputs should correspond to the statistical results, tables, and figures presented in the published study. Reference outputs are provided in the Outputs folder to facilitate verification of reproducibility. Minor numerical differences may occur because of differences in software versions or computational environments; however, these differences do not affect the interpretation of the results or the conclusions of the study.
