Validation of a commercial behavior analyzer for measuring rumination, eating, and chewing time in mid-lactation Holstein cows

Supplementary material for the study “Validation of a commercial behavior analyzer for measuring rumination, eating, and chewing time in mid-lactation Holstein cows.” This study evaluated the precision and accuracy of the DeLaval Behavior Analyzer, a commercial ear-tag–based sensor, against direct visual observations in nine mid-lactation Holstein cows monitored simultaneously for 48 h. The supplementary material includes the visual-observation data recording sheet, ethogram and behavioral classification criteria, ingredients and nutrient composition of the experimental diet, and detailed precision and accuracy statistics for rumination, eating, and chewing behaviors. Behavioral measurements were evaluated as daily duration (min/d) and expressed per unit of dry matter intake (DMI), fat- and protein-corrected milk (FPCM), and NDF intake. Validation metrics include Pearson correlation coefficients, coefficients of determination, Bland–Altman bias and 95% limits of agreement, regression slopes, Lin’s concordance correlation coefficients, and associated bias measures.
