Description

This dataset contains six tables of information on the municipality of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and 12 folders of shapefiles. The average daytime and nighttime land surface temperatures (LST) as captured by ECOSTRESS in the 55 sectors during the heat peak of April-May 2023, 3 classes of land cover, and 8 classes of land use are gathered in Table 1. The 55-sector average LST at 24 dates between April 01 2021, and May 25 2025, as detected by ECOSTRESS and Landsat sensors, is shown in Table 2. The area (ha) to be planted along roads over 18 m wide, along the edges of utilities, and in vacant lands beyond the built-up area in 2023 is estimated in Table 3. The area to be planted according to three scenarios is presented in Table 4. The area to be planted per capita and per district, according to the 3 scenarios, is shown in Table 5. The multiple regression including categorical variable, barren land, tree canopy, and roads is presented in Table 6. The shapefile folders contain land cover (barren land and tree canopy) and land use classes (gardens, Industry, Informal settlements, paved roads, roads 18m wider, utilities, vacant lands, water bodies).

Steps to reproduce

Average LST for each of the 55 Ouagadougou sectors was collected from 24 ECOSTRESS and Landsat data from April oi 2021 to May 25 2025. Landcover data were extracted by supervised classification of PlanetScope images on April 25, 2023. The land-use data were visually photo-interpreted from very high-resolution images of April 2023 freely available on Google Earth Pro, supplemented by the list of public schools and educational establishments recognized by the Ministry of National Education 2023 and the Ouagadougou Municipality, Référentiel hierarchie des voiries ouagalaises, Agence municipale des grands travaux 2023.
