Steps to reproduce

(0) Get CCS data from the from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), get SLFS from from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), get SIAB 7519 v1 from the Institute for Employment Research, contact Sandra.dummert@iab.de for access to BeH V10.06.00-202012 and BHP 7519 v2. (1) Compile CCS data in folder CCS. This will yield Figure A.1 and the files municipalityID_occupation_industry_year.dta’ and municipalityZipcode_occupation_industry_year.dta’ that will be used in the BHP package to aggregate the stock of cross border workers to municipality-level and later in the BeH analysis to compile Figure 3 and A.2. (2) Run the matching routine contained in the folder BHP. This will yield the file ‘mahalanobis_dist_west180.dta’ that will be used to identify the control regions in the BeH analysis and compile Table B.2 by running ‘BHP/prog/master.do’. Run the weighting routine to aggregate the CCS cross border worker data files to the municipality level to generate cbws_ags.dta, which will be used in the BeH analysis to compile Figures 3 and A.2. (3) Run the programs contained in the folder BeH. Running ‘BeH/prog/master.do’ will first execute the preparation programs 1-13. Then it will compile Figures 3-6 and A.2-A.4 as well as Table 1 and Tables B.3-B.14. (4) Run the program contained in folder SLFS to compile Column 1 of Table B.1. (5) Use the SIAB-preparation files provided by Dauth et al. (2020) to prepare the SIAB data 7519 v1. Make sure to change the cut-off date to September 30 in their do-file 12. Then run the program contained in folder SIAB to compile Column 2 of Table B.1.
