Dataset for Can Urban Green Infrastructure Bend the Carbon Emission Curve? Green–Gray Infrastructure Coordination and Carbon Emission Intensity in Chinese Cities, 2006–2019

This dataset supports the study of the relationship between urban green–gray infrastructure coordination and carbon emission intensity in Chinese prefecture-level cities. It contains an unbalanced city-level panel covering 272 prefecture-level cities from 2006 to 2019, comprising 3,052 city-year observations. The original data were compiled from publicly available official statistical sources and city-level carbon emission inventories, including urban construction statistical yearbooks, socioeconomic statistical data, prefecture-level energy-consumption data, and the CEADs city-level carbon emission inventory. City names, administrative units, and year definitions were harmonized across sources. Observations with severe missing values or evident anomalies were removed, while the remaining data were cleaned, standardized, matched by city and year, and organized for empirical analysis. The dataset includes total carbon dioxide emissions, carbon emission intensity, gross domestic product, gross domestic product per capita, industrial structure, energy consumption, energy intensity, built-up area, municipal public-facility investment, and indicators of urban landscaping, wastewater treatment, solid-waste treatment, and road provision. Based on these variables, the workbook provides a green infrastructure index, a gray infrastructure index, a green–gray coupling coordination index, logarithmically transformed variables, regional classifications, energy-intensity groups, green–gray balance indicators, and a one-period lagged coordination variable. The workbook contains 12 worksheets: the cleaned city-year panel dataset, descriptive statistics, annual trends, regional summaries, baseline and decomposition model results, regional heterogeneity results, period heterogeneity results, energy-intensity heterogeneity results, robustness-test results, a figure index, a data dictionary, and an editor-oriented README. The model-output sheets report coefficients, city-clustered standard errors, p-values, confidence intervals, sample sizes, coefficients of determination, and fixed-effects specifications. The dataset can be used to reproduce the descriptive analysis, two-way fixed-effects regressions, decomposition analysis, mechanism analysis, heterogeneity tests, robustness checks, and figures reported in the associated study. It may also support comparative research on urban infrastructure coordination, low-carbon development, energy efficiency, environmental governance, and sustainable urban transitions. The dataset contains aggregated city-level information only and does not include personal or individually identifiable data.
