ExploratoryTalk_Dataset_2025
Description
This dataset contains personality traits, competencies, and exploratory talk behavior of 49 sixth-grade students in Japan, collected during a group learning activity in 2019. The variables include individual-level Big Five personality scores, competency assessments (both peer- and self-evaluated), and proportions of categorized speech types during a classroom task on recycling/upcycling. All speech was transcribed and coded into categories such as exploratory talk (generating ideas and critical thinking), communicative talk, disputational talk, and others. Personality traits were measured using an 8-point scale based on the Five-Factor Personality Test for Elementary School Students (Murakami & Murakami, 2017), and competencies were assessed using the AiGROW app. This dataset is structured in a wide format with each row representing one student. It includes a README sheet that provides descriptions of all variables. All identifiable information has been removed, and ethical approval was obtained from Keio University (Approval No. SDM-2020-E035). File format: Excel file (.xlsx) with the following sheets: - data: Raw data - README: Variable descriptions (codebook)
