Global Panel Dataset on Digital Finance, Governance, Renewable Energy, and Environmental Indicators (2000–2023)

Description

This dataset contains a country-level panel used to examine the environmental effects of digital finance, including indicators on institutional quality, renewable energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. The data were compiled from multiple international databases and harmonized for econometric analysis.

Steps to reproduce

The dataset was compiled from publicly available sources, including the World Bank’s World Development Indicators, the International Monetary Fund, and international energy statistics databases. Country-level indicators on digital finance, institutional quality, renewable energy consumption, and environmental emissions were collected for the period 2000–2023 and merged using standardized country codes. To reproduce the empirical results: Download the dataset provided in the repository. Open the data file in Stata, R, or Python. Generate the key variables as described in the paper, including the digital finance index, renewable energy share, and institutional quality composite index. Apply logarithmic transformations to emissions and selected economic variables, as specified in the methodology section. Estimate the panel threshold regression model following Hansen’s (1999) approach, using institutional quality and renewable energy share as threshold variables. Replicate the robustness checks, including alternative pollutant specifications and lag structures, as described in the robustness section of the manuscript. All code used to clean the data and run the econometric models is provided in the repository to facilitate full reproducibility of the results.
