Description
Description Hoya lockii V.T. Pham & Aver. is an endemic plant species of Vietnam, first discovered in May 2011 in Huong Nguyen Commune, A Luoi District, Thua Thien Hue Province, and formally described in 2012 [1]. This species is an epiphytic plant that typically grows on trees in evergreen broadleaf forests. Due to its narrow distribution range and the small number of individuals remaining in the wild (fewer than 50), H. lockii is classified as Critically Endangered (CR) according to the IUCN Red List criteria (2010). The species bears attractive, round, white, umbellate flowers with a pleasant fragrance, making it a desirable ornamental plant. Hoya is a large genus belonging to the subfamily Asclepiadoideae of the family Apocynaceae. In Vietnam, approximately 40 Hoya species have been recorded, all of which possess ornamental value due to their distinctive flowers. A specimen of Hoya lockii V.T. Pham & Aver. was collected from Dong Son, Ky Thuong Nature Reserve, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam (21.1189° N, 107.0631° E), and Dr. Sy verified its taxonomic identification from the Department of Botany, Faculty of Biology, Thai Nguyen University of Education, Vietnam. The voucher specimen, designated HL2022-VN01, is deposited at the Faculty of Biology, Thai Nguyen University of Education. H. lockii specimen was also propagated in vitro and is currently maintained in the Plant Cell Biotechnology Laboratory and the Experimental Garden of the same faculty (21o 35’ 55.0921’’ N, 105o 49’ 25.5569’’). The H. lockii dataset includes: i) Morphological data, ii) Ecological data, and iii) In vitro conservation data (Details in attached file)
