Oyster measurement data at two sampling points for Thomas et al. oyster gear finishing study
Description
This experiment/study examined the effect of oyster aquaculture gear treatment on the shape and growth of oysters during a 5-month finishing period. The .csv file contains the raw shell height, shell length, and shell width measurements as well as the weight measurements of oysters at the beginning (August) and final (December) time points of the experiment. The column "Gear_treatment" has four groups: "subtidal", which is the subtidal bottom cage treatment, "intertidal" which is the intertidal bottom cage treatment, "OyGro" which is the OysterGro, flippable floating cage treatment, and the "RackBag" treatment, which is the rack and bag gear treatment. The column "Farm_source" has two groups that represent the source of oysters used in the experiment: either A (True Chesapeake Oyster Company oysters), or B (Hoopers Island Aquaculture Company oysters). Shell height is the distance from hinge to bill, shell length is the lateral distance across the oyster, and shell width is the cup depth (dimensions as defined in Galtsoff "The American Oyster", 1964; Chapter 2, Figure 20). These measurements were recorded in millimeters (mm). Total weight is the weight of the oyster including the shell (i.e. un shucked) and meat weight is the wet weight of the shucked oyster meat. Both weight measurements are reported in grams.
