Description

This Excel file contains assembled datasets on Portland cement concrete (PCC), geopolymer concrete (GPC), characterization factors for performing life cycle assessment (LCA), and constituent costs from the literature. These datasets were used to inform the meta-analysis developed in "Life cycle assessment and production cost of geopolymer concrete: A meta-analysis" by Andres Martinez and Sabbie A. Miller, submitted to Resources, Conservation and Recycling. Four datasets are in the file, each placed in an individual sheet. A more detailed description of each dataset is provided below: Sheet 1 - "pcc_data": data on PCC formulations from the literature. The dataset includes the following quantities: in kg/m^3: cement content (cement), ground-granulated blast-furnace slag content (GGBFS), fly ash content (FA), metakaolin content (MK), rice husk ash content (RHA), water content (water), superplasticizer content (SP), coarse aggregate content (coarse_aggregate), and fine aggregate content (fine_aggregate); age in days (age), compressive strength in MPa (fc), type of specimen for testing (tested_specimen), specimen dimensions in mm (d_cylinder, h_cylinder, d_cube), and CEM cement type (CEM_type). Sheet 2 - "gpc_data": data on GPC formulations from the literature. The dataset includes the following quantities in kg/m^3: cement content (cement), ground-granulated blast-furnace slag content (GGBFS), fly ash content (FA), metakaolin content (MK), rice husk ash content (other_SCM), total water content (total_water), superplasticizer content (SP), coarse aggregate content (coarse_aggregate), fine aggregate content (fine_aggregate), sodium hydroxide content (SH), sodium and silicate content (SS); sodium hydroxide molarity in moles/liter (SH_concentration), curing time in days (curing_time), curing temperature in Celsius (curing_temp), curing method, type of specimen for testing (tested_specimen), specimen dimensions in mm (d_cylinder, h_cylinder, d_cube),l and compressive strength in MPa for different specimen types at different ages (type_fc_age), Sheet 3 - "characterization_factors": characterization factors for different concrete constituents and processes obtained from the ecoinvent v.3.9 database and the OpenConcrete tool. The indicators include the following emissions in kg of emission/unit: greenhouse gas (GHG), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and carbon monoxide (CO). Sheet 4 - "costs": data on the cost of different concrete constituents from the literature in US dollars. Detailed information on the data source is contained in the spreadsheet and the manuscript.
