Energy Security and Economic Growth in the European Union: The Moderating Role of Industrial Structure

This dataset supports the empirical analysis presented in the study on the relationship between energy security, industrial structure, and economic growth in the European Union (EU). It contains a harmonized panel dataset covering EU member states over the period 2000–2024, constructed from multiple Eurostat and Eurostat Comext sources. The repository includes the main dataset used for econometric estimation, comprising the dependent variable (GDP growth), key explanatory variables (energy security and industrial structure), their interaction term, and standard macroeconomic control variables such as investment, inflation, trade openness, and renewable energy. The dataset is organized in a country–year panel format and allows full replication of the empirical results. In addition to the harmonized dataset, the repository provides the underlying raw data sources, variable definitions, and documentation describing data construction and transformation procedures. All data are publicly available and have been cleaned and processed to ensure consistency across countries and time. This dataset is intended to ensure transparency and reproducibility of the empirical findings and to facilitate further research on energy, industrial structure, and economic growth in the EU.

Steps to reproduce

The data come from publicly available Eurostat databases, which I downloaded and harmonized according to a uniform methodology for the period 2000–2024. I cleaned, proportioned, and arranged variables (e.g. GDP growth, energy import dependence, industrial structure, investment, etc.) into a uniform panel structure. The empirical analysis was conducted using a dynamic panel model (System GMM) using standard statistical software (e.g. Stata/R). The entire data processing process and the definition of the variables are documented in the attached data package (README and dataset), so that the research is fully reproducible.
