Supplementary calculations for the comparative life cycle assessment of electricity technologies in Greece
Description
This workbook contains the transparent input values, harmonization choices, validation checks, and worked calculations that support the figures and tables of the associated article. It compares a reference small modular reactor configuration with solar PV, wind, combined cycle gas, and lithium ion storage across life cycle greenhouse gas emissions, operational water use, land use, waste, and critical materials. All values derive from publicly available, cited sources. No new primary data were generated.

Steps to reproduce
The dataset in Supplementary_Material_S1.xlsx was created as a transparent calculation workbook to document the numerical inputs, intermediate calculations, sensitivity checks, and chart data used in the study. The workflow is reproducible directly in Microsoft Excel. First, all source values were entered in the “assumptions” sheet, where each variable is identified by name, symbol, value, unit, manuscript role, and a short comment. Built-in validation checks were used to confirm that inputs were numeric, non-negative, and logically ordered where relevant (e.g., min ≤ mid ≤ max). Second, all derived quantities were calculated through explicit Excel formulas in the “formulas” sheet, which links each result to the corresponding assumption cells. Third, the “worked_examples” sheet was used to show representative calculation paths and interpretation of key results. Fourth, the “sensitivity_analysis” sheet organized low, central, and high or alternative cases to test the effect of assumption changes on the reported outcomes. Finally, the figure sheets (Figure_S1_GHG, Figure_S2_Water, Figure_S3_Land, Figure_S4_Sensitivity) were generated from the same in-workbook tables so that each plotted value can be traced directly to its source cells. No laboratory instruments, reagents, or experimental apparatus were used; the workflow is spreadsheet-based and can be reproduced by opening the workbook, reviewing the assumptions, and recalculating the linked formulas and charts.
