Data on cell density, tissue integration and collagen intensity of fibrous electrospun DegraPol-Bakuchiol scaffolds in the CAM assay, bacterial adhesion of Staphylococcus aureus; with additional data on FTIR, fiber thickness and porosity of the scaffolds

Description

We developed a DegraPol® fiber mesh with incorporated Bakuchiol and on-planted the scaffold in the chorioallantoic membrane of the chicken embryo (CAM assay); control pure DegraPol®. After one week, we assessed the total cell density at the interface between the scaffold and the CAM in H&E stained histological sections. Moreover, we determined semi-quantitatively the tissue integration and the collagen intensity in Masson Goldner Trichrome stained histological sections. The samples were photographed in the egg and after excision – these images are provided. In addition, we investigated the adhesion of a Staphylococcus aureus strain on these scaffolds and provide colony forming units (CFUs) data. The scaffold itself was characterized by Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), where we provide data on normalized transmission as a function of wavenumber and C-O to C=O ratios; and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), where fiber thickness and pore size were measured, for which raw data and calculated mean and standard deviation are provided.
