ABSTRACT Introduction: The interaction between emotional intelligence, burnout and work performance in health sector personnel is a topic of great relevance and interest today. The objective of this research was to analyze the effect of emotional intelligence and burnout on the work performance of healthcare personnel, considering work commitment as a mediating factor. Materials and Methods: For this, four instruments were used. The study used a transversal and explanatory design with a quantitative approach, and the data analysis was performed by structural equation modeling (SEM). The sample was composed of 200 health professionals. Results: The results showed that both emotional intelligence and burnout influence job performance through work commitment, highlighting that emotional intelligence has a direct effect and an indirect effect mediated by commitment. In addition, burnout negatively affected work performance only through its impact on work engagement. Discussion: The discussion highlights that emotional intelligence and work commitment are key factors to improve performance in the health sector, and that interventions aimed at improving these variables could prevent burnout and improve the quality of medical care. Conclusion: Conclusions highlight the importance of promoting emotional intelligence and strengthening organizational commitment to improve the productivity and well-being of health personnel at work.
