Description

The data in this dataset are intended to supplement the article “Non-monotonic Drag Instability Induced by Rough Bathymetry in Non-zonal Flows”, under consideration in Journal of Fluid Mechanics. The full details of the simulations are included there, but the pertinent details are summarized here. Each directory contains the results of a 2-dimensional quasi-geostrophic simulation of flow over rough topography. The mean kinetic energy in each layer is tabulated over the simulated time, and the final velocity fields are also provided. The interactions with the rough bathymetry result in a wide diversity of flow dynamics, which have unique kinetic energy evolution and flow structures that can be analyzed from the provided records and fields.
