Overcoming the restoration trap: Sequential capitalization of socio-ecological assets in degraded watersheds
Description
This repository contains the replication data and analytical framework for the manuscript "Overcoming the restoration trap: Sequential capitalization of socio-ecological assets in degraded watersheds." The study employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) accounting with process tracing, to examine the 70-year socio-ecological evolution (1950–2024) of the Zishan watershed in Fujian Province, China. The research reveals how early-stage state-led ecological labor accumulation is temporally decoupled from later-stage market-driven rent extraction, providing a political-ecological explanation for the recurrence of secondary degradation in Nature-based Solutions (NbS). To ensure research transparency while strictly adhering to ethical and confidentiality agreements regarding human subjects, this replication package includes standardized socio-ecological parameters, localized deflation metrics, accounting algorithms, and structural qualitative metadata.
