Myiasis in wild animals in a zoo in southeastern Brazil
Description
This dataset contains the raw data supporting the study "Myiasis in wild animals in a zoo in southeastern Brazil". It includes records of myiasis cases diagnosed in wild mammals housed under human care at the Sorocaba Municipal Zoo (São Paulo, Brazil) between 2020 and 2025, taxonomic identification of dipteran larvae based on morphological examination, host species, dates of occurrence, and the meteorological variables (temperature, rainfall, and relative humidity) used to investigate the seasonal dynamics of parasitism. These data support the analyses and conclusions presented in the associated manuscript and are provided to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and future comparative studies.

The study was conducted using dipteran larvae collected from cutaneous myiasis lesions in wild mammals maintained under human care at the Sorocaba Municipal Zoo, southeastern Brazil, between 2020 and 2025. Larvae were removed during routine veterinary procedures under appropriate chemical restraint, preserved in 70% ethanol, and submitted to the Laboratory for Diagnostic Support of Parasitic Diseases at Fluminense Federal University for taxonomic identification. Species identification was performed by morphological examination under stereomicroscopy and light microscopy, following the diagnostic keys of Erzinçlioğlu (1987) and Carvalho et al. (2005). Meteorological data, including daily rainfall, mean air temperature, and relative humidity, were obtained from the Sorocaba/Iperó Automatic Meteorological Station (INMET) and consolidated into monthly values. The occurrence of myiasis was then correlated with climatic variables to evaluate seasonal patterns of parasite occurrence. The deposited dataset contains the raw case records and the processed meteorological data used to generate the analyses and figures presented in the manuscript. Y.Z.
