Measurements and statistical analysis of surface hardness of bis-acrylic resins under different conditions.

Description

This dataset contains surface hardness measurements (HRA) of two bis-acrylic resins, 3M™ ESPE Protemp™ 4 and FGM Primma Art, tested under humidity and non-humidity conditions after seven days. It includes descriptive statistics and the results of Shapiro-Wilk, Levene, ANOVA, and Tukey’s tests, as well as post hoc power analysis and sensitivity analysis.

Steps to reproduce

Forty cylindrical samples (10 mm × 8 mm) were prepared using two commercial bis-acrylic resins: 3M™ ESPE Protemp™ 4 and FGM Primma Art. The samples were equally divided (n = 20 per resin) and stored under two environmental conditions: humid (distilled water at 36 °C) and non-humid (room temperature), for seven days. Each group contained 10 samples. Rockwell A surface hardness was measured using an ESEWAY Rockwell hardness tester, type R2, equipped with a 120° conical diamond indenter and a total load of 60 kgf (10 kgf preload + 50 kgf main load). Each sample was tested in triplicate, and the mean hardness value was recorded. Testing followed ASTM E18-22 and ISO 6508-1:2023 standards for Rockwell hardness, chosen due to their applicability to hard and semi-hard materials, even though the tested materials were non-metallic. The raw hardness data were analyzed using IBM® SPSS® Statistics version 30.0 and Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (version 2404). Statistical tests included: • Shapiro-Wilk test for normality • Levene’s test for homogeneity of variances • One-way ANOVA for group comparisons • Tukey’s HSD post hoc test for pairwise analysis • Post hoc power analysis using G*Power 3.1.9.7 based on one-way ANOVA F-test (effect size f = 1.302, power = 0.9999999) • Sensitivity analysis to determine the minimum detectable effect size (f = 0.551) Only the average of the three indentations per sample was considered for statistical analysis to avoid inflating the sample size. All measurements and processing steps are reproducible under the same experimental conditions and equipment setup.
