Description

Median Sternotomy is considered to be the gold standard incision in cardiac and thoracic surgeries and pulmonary complications after median sternotomy is very common. Various studies and literature are available that demonstrate the number of therapeutic interventions that helps in decreasing the pain and improve inspiratory capacity and decrease the cough after median sternotomy. These complications also increase the financial and emotional burden on the family members by increasing the hospital stay. So, there is definite need to rule out the better therapeutic intervention among numerous researches available. The purpose of the study is to know the effectiveness of Class IV LASER on Pain, Inspiratory Capacity and Cough (PIC) score among patient underwent median sternotomy. Methods: In randomized controlled trial, patients who are admitted in CTVS unit and requested to participate who underwent median sternotomy and the selected participants were evaluated in accordance with the eligibility requirements. Then participants were randomized into two equal groups, the Experimental Group and the Control Group. In Experimental Group, Class IV LASER therapy were given and for control group, TENS were given. The outcome measure was PIC score and which was assessed at baseline and 3rd day of intervention was reassessed for analysis.
