The data presented in this study—including grid nanoindentation measurements, EBSD-derived KAM and Schmid factor maps, triaxial compression stress–strain records, and Mori–Tanaka homogenization outputs—directly underpin the reported findings. These datasets quantitatively document the nonlinear evolution of mechanical properties with diagenesis across the two lithofacies, the mineral-specific elastic responses, the lithofacies-dependent bulk modulus minima, and the contrasting failure modes (transgranular cracking versus grain-boundary-dominated deformation). All raw and processed data are available to support the interpretations and conclusions drawn from the comparative analysis of the Longmaxi and Qiongzhusi shales.
