Burden of Care Among Caregivers of Children with Cerebral Palsy at a Tertiary Hospital in Ghana: A Cross-Sectional Study.

This dataset comprises 44 responses from a cross-sectional survey of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy (CP) in Ghana. It captures detailed demographic information (gender, age, education, employment) and 24 Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) items measuring five burden subscales: time-dependence, developmental, physical, social, and emotional. The responses, rated on a 0–4 Likert scale, show predominantly high scores for time-dependence and physical exhaustion, with notable variability in emotional and social burden. This data is ideal for describing caregiver demographics, determining the prevalence and severity of caregiving burden (as a proxy for CP severity), identifying key burden domains, and analyzing associations between burden levels and caregiver characteristics directly addressing the study's objectives of characterizing the caregiving population and identifying factors associated with the burden of care.

Steps to reproduce

Open the Excel file and combine the two sheets into one dataset Remove any incomplete or duplicate responses Correct spelling errors in categorical variables (e.g., education levels) Sum all 24 questionnaire items (scored 0–4) to calculate Total Burden Score Group items into five subscales and calculate subscale scores Run descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations) Compare burden scores across demographic groups using t-tests or ANOVA Perform regression analysis to identify factors associated with higher burden Generate tables and charts to present the findings Interpret results according to the four study objectives
