Bangladesh Thalassemia Dataset
Description
This dataset comprises comprehensive clinical, laboratory, socioeconomic, and mental health data for 617 thalassemia patients treated at a major diagnostic center (LABAID LTD., Pabna, Bangladesh). The data were collected through face-to-face interviews and medical records from March to June 2025. It includes 23 variables covering demographics (age, gender, residence, education, income), treatment history (transfusion frequency, iron chelation therapy, splenectomy status), laboratory results (hemoglobin levels, serum ferritin, RBC indices), and self-reported mental health. Key features: 1. Patient age range: 2 to 60 years. 2. Thalassemia types: Major, Intermedia, Minor. 3. Mental health status: 64.83% reported poor mental health. 4. Data format: De-identified CSV file, UTF-8 encoded, fully anonymized. 5. Variable types: Numerical, ordinal, and categorical. Ethical clearance: Approved by LABAID medical authorities; informed consent obtained. This multidimensional dataset enables research on treatment adherence, mental health impact, socioeconomic disparities, and machine learning-based outcome predictions. It fills a critical gap by integrating psychosocial and clinical dimensions of thalassemia in a single structured file, useful for personalized care models and public health strategies.
