Morphometric dataset of 188 genera and 1094 species of diatom from Diatoms of North America (DONA), informing researchers about morphological variations/size reduction phenomenon examined in diatom, which is still lacking in the literature. Findings of this dataset is as follows: -Extent of size reduction in diatoms is more in asymmetrical than symmetrical forms. -Extent of size diminution is more in larger than smaller diatoms. -Benthic life-forms showed lesser extent of size diminution. -Motile guilds showed lesser extent of size diminution. -Study informed whether size reduction is due to natural or anthropogenic perturbations.
