Description

This dataset contains the raw and processed experimental data supporting the study of an elastically vibration-decoupled self-powered sensing system for freight trains. A spiral torsion spring flexible transmission unit, combined with a nested one-way bearing mechanism, is placed between a ball screw and an electromagnetic generator so that the impulsive startup load is converted into elastic storage and gradual release. The data were acquired on an MTS hydraulic servo testing system under sinusoidal displacement excitation over 0.5-3 Hz and 2-20 mm. Axial force and displacement were measured with the MTS built-in force transducer (.dat = raw machine output, .csv = exported table); voltage was recorded with a Rigol digital oscilloscope (RigolDS*.csv). The dataset covers eleven experiment groups: spiral torsion spring stiffness variation and calibration, ball screw lead variation, excitation condition comparison, capacitor charging and cold start through a BQ25570 power management circuit, load resistance matching from 1 to 1000 Ohm, frequency and amplitude sweeps for both the rigidly coupled and the elastically decoupled configurations, and a direct rigid-versus-elastic output performance comparison. Full folder-by-folder documentation is given in README.md. FILENAME_MAPPING.csv records the original file names against the English names used here.

Steps to reproduce

1. Prototype. Ball screws of lead 2, 5, 8 and 10 mm (grade C7) convert the linear input into rotation. Housing, frame and spiral torsion springs were produced by fused deposition modelling in PLA on a Bambu Lab P2S (nozzle 220 C, layer height 0.2 mm, infill 30%, print speed 300 mm/s). Spring stiffness was tuned through strip thickness from 0.75 to 2.50 mm; eight thicknesses were made with three specimens each for repeatability. Linear bearings, deep-groove ball bearings and one-way bearings are standard off-the-shelf parts. The electromagnetic generator was built in house: 10-pole N52 NdFeB rotor, stator coils wound with 0.3 mm enamelled copper wire. 2. Test rig. All records were taken on an MTS hydraulic servo testing system under sinusoidal displacement excitation, 0.5-3 Hz and 2-20 mm. Axial force and displacement come from the MTS built-in force transducer; voltage was recorded with a Rigol digital oscilloscope. 3. Experiment groups, matching the folders in this dataset. - 01, 02: spiral torsion spring stiffness. Known torques were applied and the torsion angle measured to obtain stiffness; polar calibration under a 100 g load along several directions verified isotropy. - 03: ball screw lead varied over 2, 5, 8 and 10 mm. - 04: excitation matrix over the frequency and amplitude range above. - 05: energy storage and cold start through a BQ25570 power management circuit, charging 22, 47, 100, 1000 and 2200 uF capacitors from zero voltage to steady-state output. - 06: load matching with resistances from 1 to 1000 Ohm, recording output voltage and axial force to obtain power, efficiency and the electromagnetic damping coefficient. - 07-10: frequency sweeps at amplitudes of 2, 6 and 10 mm, recording peak startup axial force for the rigid and the elastically decoupled configurations. - 11: rigid versus elastic comparison of axial force, force-displacement relation and open-circuit voltage under identical excitation. 4. File conventions. ".dat" files are unmodified MTS output; ".csv" files are the corresponding exported tables; "RigolDS*.csv" are oscilloscope traces.
